I recently had the pleasure of staying in the charming Federation House in Oamaru, and I must say, it's an interesting mix of history and comfort. The location is very convenient-a quick five-minute drive to the penguin colony and the town's historic district. The shared kitchen was well-equipped with cookware and utensils, allowing guests to prepare meals if desired. My room was clean and cozy, featuring a flat-screen TV for those downtime moments. The grocery and breakfast options, including an electric kettle and complimentary tea and coffee, were thoughtful touches that stood out. There's a spacious communal lounge with a lovely view, ideal for unwinding after a day of exploration. While some furnishings showed their age, this added character to the stay. With friendly service and a warm atmosphere, I felt the hotel offered great value for the amenities provided without breaking the bank. Federation House blends affordable luxury nicely for travelers keen on history and comfort.
